Obama har lagt om rodret. Och när USA agerar så händer det saker. Man avslutade andra världskriget, flög till månen, startade krig i Irak osv. Om det blir rätt eller inte beror bland annat på hur bra rådgivare ledningen omger sig med.
Den amerikanska ledningen har nu tillgång till de mest framstående forskarna inom klimat och energi. Och Obama förnekar inte kunskapen. Det ser vidare ut som om man både avser agera för att anpassa sig och minska klimatpåverkan i linje med de alarmerande resultat klimatforskarna presenterat den senaste tiden.

Jag antar att det finns många som blir förvånade då de inser med vilken kraft USA kommer att möta hoten inom klimat och energi. Men det är inte förvånande. Alla som sätter sig in i frågorna inser behovet. Och man tänker inte agera ensam, man kommer att avkräva resten av världen ansvar och agerande.
Utdrag från talet av Hillary Clinton 20090126:
“… So the urgency of the global climate crisis must not be underestimated, nor should the science behind it or the facts on the ground be ignored or dismissed.
The time for realism and action is now. And President Obama and I recognize that the solutions to this crisis are both domestic and global, that all nations bear responsibility and all nations must work together to find solutions. Under President Obama, America will take the lead in addressing this challenge, both by making commitments of our own and engaging other nations to do the same…”
Hur kommer det här att påverka oss i Sverige? Det är strategiskt klokt att försöka ha tillgång till, och förstå, samma information som ligger till grund för USA administrationens agerande. Glädjande nog så finns informationen i vårt samhälle. Vad vi saknar i Sverige är ledarskap. Och insikt, riktigt djup, insikt.
Visst finns det goda exempel här hemifrån. Men med tanke på de extremt goda förutsättningar vi haft/har både kunskapsmässigt och resursmässigt så är det märkligt att vi inte kommit längre.
Vi behöver en bred och djup kunskap i hela samhället om både komplexiteten och detaljerna i klimat- och ekosystemfrågorna. Vi behöver förstå hur USA och resten av världen kommer att agera. Vi behöver utveckla strategier för att hantera förändringarna.
The Swedish Minister of the Environment, Andreas Carlgren, suggests a further 50% capacity of carriage of passenger and cargo before 2020. According to Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet the Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt in an earlier interview said that the suggestion was “unrealistic”. That is the the hook from the newspaper Dagens Nyheter.
The suggestions to increase the train capacity emanates from the Government Offices “Klimatberedningen” (Climate Advisory Committee).
According to the Minister of the Environment the increased train capacity would save another million tonnes of carbon dioxide. Well, that is good.
But actually, the real incentive for increasing the train capacity should be to maintain capacity for welfare. With rising costs for oil and the insight of the necessity to curb other fossil sources of energy, it is quite obvious that we need more capacity to travel by train. Not because it is “climate friendly” (that is a positive side effect), but because we then can produce transportation services for passenger and cargo without the need of sources of energy that most likely will not be available in the future. And the future is not as far away as 2020.
Are you tired of all the smart things you are asked to do to stop climate from changing? Do you have a feeling that there is a quick fix even thou everybody keeps telling you that there are a million thing to do and that no single solution can prevent global warming
There is a quick fix.
Or put it this way, if humanity fails in doing this thing, we will not be able to solve the climate crisis. No matter how many low energy light bulbs you use, no matter how much renewable energy we produce.
The quick fix is as follows: Let the fossil carbon stay in the ground.
As long as anybody digs up coal, gas or oil, somebody else will use it. (If nobody is to use it, my advice is not to spend money on digging it up.) And if somebody uses it, eventually greenhouse gases will end up in the atmosphere. And in the atmosphere there already is more greenhouse gases than can be considered as safe regarding consequences upon ecosystems and societies.
So, a necessary, but not sufficient, condition on order to deal with climate change is to let the carbon stay in the ground.
